a letter for my death

HOUNDSTOOTH- NEW ILLUSIONS

Do Not Let My Departure
Bind You To Grief

Let Grief Arrive
As A Butterfly On Your Shoulder
from time to time
With Awe, Wonder, And Significance

Let The Breaking Of Your Heart
move like a river,
pushing through its filters,
each contraction purifying
until it runs light and clear.

Let The Butterfly Sip
the gift of your tears,
feeding on the ending
of this rinsing cycle.

Watch It Float Away,
carrying all that is not yours,
leaving a spark
of inspiration
glowing in your soul.

Thank You For Loving Me
I Sure Loved You

Even if I were to die young, tragic, or sudden,
do not curse out to the heavens
for I am not special
I do not deserve any type of death
other than the one destined for me

People often ask why the good ones go
but to that I think
No such thing
We are all good and we are all bad
sometimes a life meets a moment
that shapes more than what we can see

and perhaps it is true,
that we can’t appreciate true beauty
unless we know true Travesty

Perhaps my death is only a reflection
of the fear of death you already carry
Maybe you once lost someone too young
to understand what their leaving meant
Maybe you needed someone
who could no longer stay
And for that,
I hold deep compassion for you
a warrior’s way,
it not an easy road
but an honourable one
There really is no replacing
those you miss the most

but I hope that over time you discover
that this absence shaped you
that it gave you strength,
when you needed it the most
with each passing day
gifted moments to embody
everything they could no longer be

their wisdom a sweet whisper in the wind
their touch, a single ray of sunshine on your skin

If you wish to know what waits
in the great beyond,
perhaps you can taste it already
In the stillness
In the silence
In a long breath held underwater
a deep nap under the trees

maybe death isn’t that Unfamiliar after all

We often hear about
the dungeons and dragons
of the afterlife
Let those old shadows fall away
Trust that whatever holds us
is wider than the fears
from generations of storytelling

Do not let the cycle of life and death
terrify you either
or leave you with an unshakable grief
that dulls your sight
Let it open you to see more beauty, not less.
For my death will bring forward rebirth
a giving of space,
a return of everything I have taken in my lifetime

I have known great love on this planet
so when my human form takes its final rest
I will lay content with my short Trip here
i have already seen the visions
of my hands ageing to completion
i have already accepted this destination

and If my soul chooses to take flight again
embarking in more cycles
of sweet love and sweet suffering
may it also carry this wisdom with it
and all the precious moments we have shared together

remember friend,
Do not let Shame
hold you back from a life of Inquiry
do not let Fear
hold you back from a life of lessons
Do not wish for longevity,
but for each day to reveal its love to you

and if you wish
call out to me
And I will come bearing gifts
of truth, humour and healing
revealed from the deep plains
of imprinted consciousness

when it is time,
Lay my body in the dirt,
or cast it out to sea
I would like to return to the earth,
leaving as I came to be

always be knowing you xx
